left/right confusion

I'm a full grown ass woman and DONT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RIGHT AND LEFT!!

TROUBLESHOOTING

It's not that i'm bad with directions--I'm actually quite good with directions! once i've been somewhere once, i rarely have to look up directions again. and i never use google maps on the road!! even before i had a dumbphone, i just liked the challenge xD

my husband insists its sooooo easssyyy you just have to make L's with your fingers and figure out which one looks correct--BUT THEY BOTH LOOK RIGHT TO ME OK!?!? i can't remember left vs right in a split second, i also can't remember which capital L is right in a split second. most neumonics don't work for me because i have to remember to do them in the first place and most of the time my brain just makes a decision on which way is right vs left (and most of the time it's wrong).

MY HYPOTHESIS

i blame the theater!!!! in theater, left and right are not subjective directions, but objective directions. Stage right and stage left *dont* change based on the perspective of the audience--they remain consistent, for staging and blocking clarity. i was a total theater kid growing up, and think this messed with my understandings of directions at a very formative brain time.

but this is just my hypothesis, and my life experience is limited and flawed!! if you have trouble telling right from left, please let me know your thoughts and experiences!! boredomarchive@pm.me
