AUDIO DEVICES

sony discman

this was the first ever music device i used. i stole it from my mom. the earliest time i remember using it was maybe 2nd or 3rd grade, and would use it to repeat 1 the songs i liked off my parents CDs. frequent fliers in this player were fumbling towards ecstasy (particularly the songs Ice and Fear were my fav!), and much afraid (i had a series of unfortuante events ripoff story called "Twisted Wire" based on the lyrics "my ear is twisted/with all the thoughts" from truce). it didn't work very well though, and i remember having to prop it up at odd angles or else the cds would skip.

side note, someone did a write-up of it on their blog and i think it's very interesting!!

sony walkman

i believe this was my little sister's CD player! in classic older sister fashion, i stole it whenever i could without getting caught. there was a summer it was essentially welded to my copy of Fallen before she got into highschool musical and wanted to use it all the time. very strong memories of being driven to theater camp and brooding to Whisper in the car.

sandisk sansa

I STILL HAVE THIS DEVICE!!! It has the remnants of a "I held rosie the tarantula" sticker on it.

yet another one i stole from my mom. i think she got it at office depot, LMAO! it carried me through the end of elementary/beginning of middle school, but i pretty quickly hit its storage limit as it only has 500 mb of storage and holds about 100 songs. cds that were NEVER deleted and are still on it to this day are flyleaf, the emptiness, dark passion play, and the open door. it had the capacity to connect to the radio, which really opened up my music world!

it also has the capacity to record audio and the results are extremely lo-fi and fucked in the most epic way. it's been really useful for recording things i want to sound older or distorted!

ipod shuffle, 3rd gen

this was a christmas present in middle school i think! i remember being anxious about getting an ipod because i had heard that they didn't work with windows computers or you couldn't share music between the ipod/computer, etc. (which i never had a problem with in the end!) but the need for more storage was simply too great. i had the 4 gig one, and unfortunately quicky maxxed that one out too because my uncle's friend gave me his hard drive which had literally every green day, slipknot, linkin park, and korn album ever.

it was also my introduction to the itunes store, which was my first experience with digital downloads that weren't pirated. i remember being so in awe of how easy it was to find everything xD the first cd i bought on itunes was the series of unfortunate events OST, followed quickly by the heart of everything.

ipod nano 6th gen

I still have this device as well!! I bought it 2nd hand on amazon in highschool, desperate for the extra storage. so i have no idea what the initials on it stand for. it served me dutifully for years until i, predictably, ran out of storage again and began using my phone for music.

albums that got the most play on this device are let's cheers to this, the valley, and unfortunately for everyone else in my life, the entirety of the Homestuck soundtrack.
