if you you ever wondered, "why are the self help books in the same section as the prayer books in publix?", this video answers a LOOOT of those questions. I really recommend giving it a watch! it blew my mind.

I shared this vid with a friend, who then turned me on to this podcast, which is very entertaining!

so if you hate books that are essentially barely-researched journalists claiming they have a deep and profound understanding of how to hack mankind's thought process or some other business bro shit, you'll love this rabbit hole!

PIXIE PARK UPDATES

I'll be on hiatus working on Pixie Park for the rest of the year, since we're travelling a lot to see family and I have some other commitments that take priority during the chaos! Episodes will come back in February or March!

Last week was music youtube shoutouts, here's some animation youtube shoutouts! I'd also recommend following all these creators, though some of them post very infrequently!

#MoStopMo, a channel a friend introduced me to last week that screens stop motion films and interviews artists! Their digital film festivals are TOP NOTCH in quality!

A Studio Digital posts shorts by lots of different artists and they're SO MUCH FUN! I love all of them!

Moss Lawton's Fritz animatic, based on their series of Graphic Novels Hellaween!

Aimee Steinberger's really sick Our Flag Means Death music video animatic!

Brianne Drouhard has lots of cool stuff on her channel, but I specifically love her painting process vids! She occasionally will stream on twitch too, so if you like really soothing vids of people inking or painting I really recommend her twitch as well!

Miguel Baltazar is a storyboard artist at Walt Disney Feature studios and posts his animatics and process breakdowns!

I'm sure I forgot some super cool ones but I can always do another post later. if you're craving more cool animation work, also be sure to check out the things I have listed in the sidebar!!

If you like finding new music on youtube, but are increasingly frustrated with the influx of AI and having to try and figure out what you're listening to--here are a few channels I recommend!

if you like metalcore/hardcore/deathcore/????core you're guaranteed to like Lawnchair Youth. They upload almost daily, and you can know for sure their artists aren't AI because they're performing in a channel-owned studio space, or premiering a music video. Here are a few of my recent favs:

speaking of music video premiers, if pop punk/indie alt is more your vibe Smartpunk Records has a bunch of bangers too! I found them thru Stud Count and have been a huge fan of their uploads ever since!

i love using offbeat search engines like ecosia--not for privacy, but because the search results are WILD. Like, borderline unusably wild. but if you're just bored and thirsting for the magic of the old internet and stumbling on something super whackjob it's amazing.

like this INCREDIBLE 2008-esque photoshop competition forum that was active up until 2020!

there is SO much fun stuff on here, but this thread is one of my favorites. it displays the full, super charming range of skill level from boomer to insane. but also features my favorite creator on the site.

Drivenslush is a beautiful enigma. Their creations are puzzling and sometimes terrifying, but oh my GOD do they have a vision. they are incredibly prolific, often entering multiple times into the same competition.

this image is titled "Confrontation infront of the Bug Hotel". AMAZING!!!!

While I don't always understand it, i LOVE their work and the dedication they have to breaking images into building blocks and making something completely new. it's so imaginative and refreshing! they have something incredible to say and i'm so grateful they found a way to share it with us.

Drivenslush is my personal fav but i highly highly recommend you take a look around the site! There's a lot of wild and fun stuff.

I love tubi.tv. It's SO much fun. I love going on and trying to find the most insane movies (usually found by searching "Bigfoot" and watching anything labelled a documentary), but I also love just seeing what B- and C-tier horror movies they have available. Sometimes even D or F. But last week I stumbled onto an amazing movie I'd never even heard of: The Cave

It's sorted under horror but it's way more an action movie than it is a horror movie. I'm aware that it's possible for something to be both, but the vibe (in my opinion) is a lot more similar to Disney's Animated Atlantis movie than it is the other cave diving horror movie, The Descent (which is also very good!, AAAAAND free on Tubi!). I'd heard of Descent before, as it's spoken highly of in horror fan communities, but had never heard of the cave despite the effects and production being really impressive, and there being several now a-list actors in its cast.

It has historical mysteries, choreographed fully underwater setpieces (not just stock footage of people swimming thru a cave!), and loads of different obstacles from caves full of fire, to underground river rapids, to a sheer cliff wall climb fight sequence. It's a really fun watch and even if you're not a horror fan I think this movie will still have something for you!!

INTERESTING FIND OF THE WEEK

november 18, 2024

This week's interesting find is PURPLE FROGS

LOOK AT THESE GUYS

WTF

november 8, 2024

this week we have a guest interesting thing! this topic was suggested by my boyfriend!

we were looking at a koi pond earlier this week and wondering, how do they get so big? he knows a lot about fish and noticed they have sucky bottom feeder mouths, and that they're almost always in ponds with other fish like minnows. so it begged the question: do they get that big on algae alone? or do they eat their fellow pond inhabitants?

i was looking it up and found 2 things:

i also realized though i was missing a piece of information: are the things that live in the ponds minnows, or baby koi? or some other kind of fish! talking to my bf about it he thought they must be baby koi because what else would they be? but baby koi look really bright and distinctive, and these looked like any old minnows.

so that begs the question: where do minnows come from? are they stocked as a food source in these ponds for the koi fish?

me

so my official scientific conclusion is that the koi fish probably don't really eat the minnows, which are not baby koi, because they're probably very well fed. and that the minnows are there intentionally to keep mosquito and algae under control in the pond.
